검증 가능한

verifiable

단순한 사실들의 경우는 별도로 하고,

Apart from simple facts,

"나는 옳고 너는 틀리다."

라고 확신하는 것은

"I'm right and you're wrong."

개인의 인간관계뿐 아니라

Not just personal relationships,

국가, 민족, 종교 간의

상호 관계에서도 위험하다.

in the interrelationships

between nations, peoples,

and religions.

 

 

그러나 만약

"나는 옳고 너는 틀리다"

라는 믿음이

"I am right and you are wrong"

에고가 자신을

강화하는 방법들 중 하나이며,

to strengthen himself.

자신을 옳고

남은 틀리게 만드는 것이

What makes you right and

what's left of you,

사람들 사이의

분열과 갈등을 지속시키는

lasting division and

conflict among people

마음의 기능장애라면,

그렇다면 행동과 행위,

If it's a dysfunctional mind,

then action and action,

그리고 믿음에는 옳은 것도

틀린것도 없는 것일까?

이것들의 공통점은 무엇인가?

What do these things have in common?

그것들은 생각으로

이루어져 있다는 것이다.

They are made up of ideas.

생각은 기껏해야 진리를

가리켜 보일 수는 있지만

tell the truth at best,

결코 진리 그 자체는 아니다.

Never the truth itself.

그러므로 불교에서는

'달'을 가리키는 손가락은

달이 아니다'라고 말한다.

The finger pointing to the moon

모든 종교는

그것을 어떻게 사용하는가에 따라

depending on how you use it

똑같이 틀릴 수도 있고

그것은 에고를 위해 봉사시킬 수도 있고,

It can serve Ego.

진리에 봉사시킬 수도 있다.

You can also serve the truth.

자신의 종교만이 '진리'라고 믿는다면,

your religion is the truth,

그것을 에고에

봉사시키고 있는 것이다.

It is serving Ego.

그런 방식으로 사용할 때

종교는 이념이 되고,

When used in that way,

religion becomes an ideology.

사람들 사이에 편가르기와 갈등뿐 아니라

Not only does it divide people, it's,

우월감이라는 환상을 심는다.

plant the illusion of superiority

진리에 봉사할 때 종교적 가르침들은

When you serve the truth,

the religious teachings...

깨달은 존재들이 남긴

표지판과 지도가 되어

By being the signs and maps

left behind by the enlightened beings,

다른 사람들도 영적으로 깨어나고

Others wake up spiritually.

형상과의 동일화로부터

from homogeneity with geometry

자유로워지도록 도울 것이다.

절대적 진리는

오직 하나이며,

absolute truth.

다른 모든 진리들은

그것으로부터 퍼져 나온다.

All the other truths

spread out from it.

그 진리를 발견할 때

진리에 맞춰질 것이다.

All your actions will be

인간의 행동은

진리를 반영하거나

진리를 말로 표현할 수 있을까?

Can I express the truth in words?

표현할 수 있다. 하지만 물론

언어는 진리 그 자체가 아니다.

Language is not the truth itself.

단지 진리를 가리켜 보일 뿐이다.

당신 자신과 분리될 수 없다.

그렇다. 당신이 진리이다.

Yes. You're the truth.

만약 다른 곳에서 진리를

찾고 있다면 매번 속을 것이다.

If you're looking elsewhere for truth,

you'll be fooled every time.

당신이라는 존재 자체가 진리이다.

Your existence itself is the truth.

예수는 이것을

"나는 길이요, 진리요. 생명이다."

Jesus said, "I'm the way,

the truth. It's life."

라는 말로 전하려고 했다.

예수의 이 말은 가장 강력하고

가장 직접적으로 진리를 가리킨다.

Most directly refers to the truth.

하지만 잘못 해석하면 커다란 장애물이 된다.

But misinterpretation

can be a big obstacle.

예수는 인간 내면의

가장 깊은 부분에 있는 존재,

Jesus is in the deepest part of

the human being,

모든 남자와 여자뿐 아니라

Not just all men and women.

모든 생명체의 가장 핵심적인

the most vital part of all life

정체성을 말하고 있는 것이다.

그는 당신의 존재인

그 생명에 대해 말했다.

기독교 신비가들은

그것을 '내면의 그리스도'라고 불렀다.

불교에서는 불성이라 부른다.

힌두교에서는 아트만(진아),

신이라고 부른다.

특별히 기적적인 성취가 아니다.

miraculous achievement.

당신의 모든 행동과 관계들은

All of your actions and relationships,

당신이 깊은 내면에서 감지하는

What you perceive deep inside.

모든 생명과의 일체감을

반영하게 될 것이다.

It will reflect a sense of

unity with all life.

이것이 사랑이다.

This is love.

율법, 계명, 계율, 규정들은

The laws, commandments,

decrees, regulations,

진정한 자기 자신과 단절된 사람들,

People who are truly

cut off from themselves,

자기 내면의 진리와 분리된

사람들에게 필요한 것이다.

It is necessary for those who are

separated from their inner truths.

그것들은 에고의 최악의 폭주를

막는 역할을 하겠지만,

They will stop Ego's worst runaway,

종종 그것에조차 실패한다.

Often even that fails.
